Fougere, Floral, Chypre, Oriental, Leather and Musk. MUGLER Les Exceptions draws together the greatest themes in traditional perfumery and re-masters them. They explore new combinations and boldly create aromatic encounters with surprising ingredients, bringing these outstanding classic blends towards a new destiny full of unexpected pleasure.
Each Eau de Parfum kindles its own intense emotion, a unique sensation. The sensation carried within its name.
Variations and materials
Fresh green leaves that are both powerful and invigorating. A combination of the precious ingredients; basil, clary sage, thyme, and oregano.
Peru balsam appears by surprise. Originating from the Balsam of Peru – a tree from Central America – its balmy, scented resin was traditionally used for its calming properties. This rich and unexpected Oriental sweetness provides a contrast with the fresh and traditional aromatic notes. The Mediterranean horizon expands towards a mysterious Oriental land.
The result: An intense aromatic freshness combined with the warm and enigmatic notes of Perum balsam.
Stepping outside the box of feminine and masculine labels, the aromatic notes are a surprise. Stepping outside the box of feminine and masculine labels, the aromatic notes are a surprise. Here, the effect combines the impression of a garden in the South of France, my personal memories, and a return to the sources of perfumery. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
A medley of white flowers wrapped in unexpected gustatory notes of orange blossom, sambac jasmine, beeswax and finally shiso leaves.
The fresh and candid lily of the valley note messes with overdosed orange blossom absolute, highlighting the emotionally intoxicating sambac jasmine absolute with its sensual, animalistic hints.
The result : a floral brioche scent with a palette of contrasting white flowers that takes you by surprise.
The offbeat bakery dimension, over a classical floral structure, comes as a surprise. More than an unexpected quest, bran, with its warm bread accents, is very important to the construction of the fragrance. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
A "Cologne" style, full of invigorating freshness. Traditionally, a concentrate of citrus fruits, petitgrain and orange blossom, to energize the senses
A heady cocktail of spices (ginger and cardamom) and an overdose of green coffee shake up the Cologne's structure. Its refined notes lend warmth and add texture and bite
Result: A provocative sillage. A disconcerting signature.
Eau de Cologne has always been associated with cleanliness, reassuring comfort and sometimes, childhood memories. Eau de Cologne has always been associated with cleanliness, reassuring comfort and sometimes, childhood memories. I wanted to shake up this rather humdrum image by introducing a note of green coffee. This happy mayhem provokes the senses with its lively temperament and sophisticated signature. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
An Oud Wood accord, as precious as it is legendary. A quintessentially fine ingredient imbued with sensuality and mystery.
Osmanthus blossom brings floral, fruity notes to freshen and illuminate this overdose of majestic wood.
With its combination of woody, spicy and animal facets, ingredients as rich as Oud Wood are a rarity. I've used superb natural raw materials to bring out the facets I like most and create a composition of great character. To soften its animalic dimension, I balanced it with Osmanthus blossom, which adds a sophisticated touch of soft suede and succulent fruit reminiscent of apricots or juicy plums. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
Leather, a classic theme in perfumery, recalling Russian leathers and Siberian cavalcades, the leather note is now reproduced with birchwood.
Cuir Impertinent is the product of an olfactory collision between the darkness of tanned leather and an unexpected explosion of colour: star anise. The invigorating green note acts as an aromatic flash to create a disruptive yet addictive and seductive scent.
I love the leather notes and the sensuality they lend to the scented trail of a perfume I found it interesting to combine the note of star anise. This original accord creates a harmony of contrasts. It is to a great extent the aromatic, aniseed freshness of the spice that enhances certain facets of the leather. The green and fresh star anise reveals and nuances the sombre, carnal depth of the leather. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
"Fougere" is the archetype of men's fragrances, traditionally offering the rich aromatic mix of geranium, oakmoss and Tonka bean.
Fougere Furieuse is the result of a disconcerting olfactory collision between a great masculine harmony and the neroli, the incarnation of feminine purity. These sensual floral notes provoke the masculine character of the fern and reinvent the genre. They team up with coumarin and amber to create an ultra-sexy and playful overdose of perfume, for a highly addictive result. An outrageous sensory experience that furiously overturns conventions.
The approach is resolutely Mulgerian Toying with the codes of the genre, borrowing some elements from the masculine wardrobe then changing them, daring to be outrageous, these precepts have been applied to the fragrance. Feminine floral facets of the fern structure have been intensified and the cotrasts amplified. The approach is resolutely Muglerian. Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
Chypre, the most legendary and noble accord of all, came into being in the early 20th century with the alliance of bergamot, oakmoss, cistus labdanum and patchouli.
Chyprissime is the result of a unique olfactory collision between a classic structure of fine perfumery, chypre and an unexpected fruity pear accord. A modern and explosive association, a deliciously juicy pear in a spirit of pop culture and blended genres that gives the patchouli a bright fruity burst for a vibrant and futuristic chypre. Underneath that first shock, an exquisite harmony, Chyprissime, because it goes beyond a Chypre.
A refined fragrance with an elegant distinction. I updated the structure of chypre by sharpening the edges more precisely and making it more colourful by designing a new shade inspired by this palette to give it a new brightness. Pear takes away the vintage sheen from this great monument of classical perfumery. A stylishly original, sophisticated perfume Olivier POLGE
Precious oriental fragrances, rich in balm, resin, vanilla and powdery effects, whose potent sensuality becomes an addiction.
Oriental Express is the fruit of a unique olfactory collision between a traditional sandalwood and vanilla accord and the surprising, almost disarming modernity of a crunchy carrot base. An original edginess in an oriental perfume. An array of sensations, from enveloping softness to aromatic freshness, rekindles this legendary accord and enhances its sumptuous opulence.
Oriental Express is like a perfume-fur for me I decided to exalt the sandalwood-vanilla accord by setting it against carrot and basil, with its green aromatic note. This startling contrast brings alive both women's and men's oriental fragrances, with its unexpected character. Olivier POLGE
over the musk
Modern musk with more sweet and transparent notes.
Over the Musk is the result of an olfactory collision between modern musks and the animal nature of ambrette seeds. These precious olfactory "nuggets" produced by hibiscus transform animal musk into plant musk in order to discover at long last its wild nature and uncompromising sensuality.
Over the Musk explores the bright side of sensuality. Simplicity sometimes reveals many nuances. Over the Musk explores the bright side of sensuality. From fluffy white cashmere to powdery velvet, the story is about irresistible sex appea Jean-Christophe HÉRAULT
Hyacinth, a bold and unique flower that symbolizes sophisticated femininity.
Supra Floral represents a mysterious olfactory collision between a flower rarely used in perfumery and the bewitching swirls of an age-old ingredient, incense. The fluid and profound flower with crisp green petals is jostled by the fiery temperament of the incense for explosive and absolute sensuality.
A fragrance of seduction and temptation By blending notes of incense and an amber base, I imagined a hyacinth with a bold temperament, far from the idea of the emblematic, romantic flower. Supra Floral signals a seductive perfume for women and temptation for men Olivier POLGE
MUGLER Les Exceptions flaunt their distinction.
Their universal simplicity is reflected in the unique and luxurious bottle. Subtly faceted and embellished with a metal band, the Art Deco-inspired jewel-bottle showcases the specific architectural elegance of the Maison Mugler.
In the scented wake of Mugler Les Exceptions
stand their two creators:
The House of Mugler commissioned two talented perfumers in turn to create the luxurious Exceptions collection: Olivier Polge composed the first five editions (Chyprissime, Supra Floral, Fougere Furieuse, Over The Musk, Oriental Express) before handing over the baton to Jean-Christophe Hérault, who has created Cuir Impertinent and Woodissime since he took over as perfumer for the line.
Jean-Christophe Hérault grew up in the world of scents. He loves to tell powerful aromatic tales and is naturally drawn to potent and evocative raw materials. He dreams of unexplored territories, where he can stir up vivid emotions and, most importantly, leave no one indifferent.
